Terms of use

Last updated

These terms cover itsmurat.com: its pages, the free tools, the workshop board, Murat AI and the calculators. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use it.

The site is run by me, Murat Yilmaz, an individual in New York.

The free tools

The tools are free and need no account. I provide them as they are, and I may change, limit or stop any of them, for example if running one starts to cost more than I can cover.

There are no accounts, so a lost owner key can't be recovered. Anyone with a study's participant link can take part, anyone with its results link can read its results if they are published, and anyone with the owner key controls it. Keep owner keys private.

What you put in

What you put into the tools (questions, cards, notes, pictures, answers) stays yours. You let the site store it and show it to the people it is meant for: you, the people you send the link to, and anyone who has a link you share. Only put in what you have the right to use, including pictures of other people or their work.

I don't read or approve what people put into the tools before others see it, and I don't endorse it. Whoever made a study, survey, session or board is responsible for what is in it.

Running research with people

If you run a study, survey, session or workshop with other people, you are responsible for it: telling them what you collect and why, getting their consent where it is needed, and following the laws and rules that apply to you and them. Don't use the tools to collect health records, government ID numbers, payment details or passwords.

Acceptable use

Don't use the site to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it
  • harass, threaten or deceive people, or post hateful or sexual content
  • collect people's passwords or payment details, or pose as someone else
  • send spam, or spread malware
  • overload the site, get around its limits, scrape it at volume, or try to get into anything that isn't yours

Removing things

I may remove a study, board or anything in one that breaks these terms, and block access where it is needed to protect the site or the people using it.

Reporting a problem

If something made with the tools breaks these terms, such as a study that asks for passwords or holds hateful content, report it with the link at the bottom of the study or the board's menu, or email itsmurat@gmail.com with its link. I'll look at it and remove it if it breaks these terms.

The same address takes copyright complaints. Say what the work is, where it appears on the site, and that you own it or act for whoever does.

Claims about what you put in

If you break these terms, or something you put into the tools leads someone to make a claim against me, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that follow, legal fees included, as far as the law allows.

Murat AI

Murat AI answers questions about my work from what is published on this site. An AI model writes its answers, and they can be wrong. They aren't statements or promises from me: check anything that matters with me directly.

Calculators, planners and methods

The calculators, capacity planners, glossary, case studies and workshop methods are there to inform you. They are not professional, statistical, financial or legal advice. Check the results before you rely on them.

The site's own content

The writing, case studies and designs on the site are mine unless they say otherwise. Quote short parts with a link back. The workshop and storytelling templates are free to use in your own workshops; each method credits where it came from. Protected case studies are confidential: don't share their password or pass them on. Company names and trademarks belong to their owners.

Other services

Some features hand you to other services, such as SomaFM's player or a payment page. Their terms apply there, and I am not responsible for them.

Tips and support

Tips are voluntary. They don't buy features, support, priority or anything else, and they aren't refundable unless the law requires it.

No warranty

As far as the law allows, the site and its tools are provided as they are and as available, without warranties of any kind: not that they will be available, accurate, fit for a particular purpose or free of errors.

Limit of liability

As far as the law allows, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to what you paid me directly in the twelve months before the claim, which for most people is nothing.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, in the United States. A dispute that can't be settled by talking goes to the courts in New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to use your own courts.

Changes

I may update these terms. The latest version is always on this page, with its date at the top.
