KPI
Also calledKey performance indicator, Product metric
A number a team watches to tell whether it is succeeding, such as conversion rate, retention or revenue per user.
A key performance indicator is a measurement tied to a goal. Good KPIs are few, move when the team's work works, and are hard to game without actually helping the customer.
Design work usually shows up in KPIs indirectly. A clearer flow raises conversion; better onboarding raises retention; fewer usability problems lower support costs.
