Design handoff

Also calledHandoff, Dev collaboration, Design-to-development handoff

Passing a design to engineering with everything needed to build it: specs, states, assets, behaviour and the reasoning behind decisions.

A good handoff answers questions before they are asked: what happens on error, what the empty state looks like, how it behaves on a small screen, and which components it uses.

The best teams treat handoff as a conversation rather than a delivery. Designers and engineers working together throughout a project leave far less to explain at the end, and the rework that a one-way handoff creates largely disappears.
