First-click testing
Also calledFirst click test
Showing people a screen and a task and recording where they click first. If the first click is right, they are far more likely to succeed.
Research on first clicks has repeatedly found that people who start on the right path are much more likely to complete a task than those who start wrong. That makes the first click a cheap, early signal of a design's clarity.
First-click tests work on static screens and mockups, so they can be run before anything is built. In a tree test, the first click is recorded as part of the result.
