Product roadmap

Also calledRoadmap, Prioritisation

A plan of what a product team intends to work on and roughly when, and the reasoning for choosing those problems over others.

A good roadmap is a statement of priorities, not a delivery schedule. It says which problems the team will tackle next and why they matter more than the alternatives.

Many teams now organise roadmaps by outcomes or by now, next and later, rather than by dated features, because dates promised months ahead are rarely kept and make it hard to change course when something is learned.

Common mistake

A roadmap that is a list of stakeholder requests. If nothing on it is a bet the team chose itself, product management has become order-taking.
