UI design

Also calledUser interface design, Interface design

Designing the screens and controls people interact with: layout, components, states and how each element looks and behaves.

UI design turns a flow into something people can use. It covers layout, hierarchy, typography, colour, controls, and every state an element can be in, such as empty, loading, error and success.

In most teams the same product designer does both UX and UI work. The split is still useful as a way of thinking: structure first, then surface.
